By realizing the importance of emerging trends in applied life sciences, the college has established the Department of Biotechnology in 2006. Currently the department offers Under Graduate & Post Graduate programs in Biotechnology and Microbiology. Well equipped laboratories and well qualified University approved faculty members are the grace of the department. All the staff members have been actively engaged in value based teaching and conducting research activities in major areas of life sciences and published the number of research papers in reputed national and international journals. The thrust areas of research undertaken by the Department are Bio-nanotechnology, Gene Transformation, Metal Leaching, E-waste degradation, Bio-cement, Anaerobic Digester Microbiology, Renewable energy, Bio-fertilizers, Bio-insecticides, Cyanobacteria and Extremophiles, Probiotics and Neutraceuticals, Enzyme Technology, Zooplanktons etc. We also actively engage the students in research activities by providing them necessary support and platforms in terms of resources, field visits and participation in national and international research conventions.

The department has its own library facility where numerous text books, reference books and journals mainly targeting the subjects in life sciences are available for students. The Department of Biotechnology is consistently uplifting the economically and socially backward students by providing them quality education along with state-of-the-art infrastructure at very minimum cost. The Department is also in focus for its achievements regularly in leading news papers.  The Department has initiated the commercialization of some Bio-based products in Food and agriculture sector with In-house developed very low cost production techniques.

The Department also offers the consultancy for the Microbial analysis, antimicrobial activity analysis, HPLC analysis etc. on no profit no loss basis. Many of the Alumni of this department are working in R&D, QC, Production and management departments of various reputed companies and government organizations. We also encourage the students to appear for different competitive exams like NET, SET, GATE and provide the support and resources for the same.
